Course Content:

• Background of Water Crisis and Recycling: The current situation and challenges of global water shortage will be introduced, and why water recycling is crucial for future cities. Students will learn about the background and development of NEWater, and how Singapore solves the problem of water shortage through innovative technologies.
• NEWater Purification Process: The five key steps of NEWater’s treatment of sewage into drinking water will be introduced in detail: microfiltration, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet disinfection, mineralization treatment and quality control testing. The instructor will show how each step of technology purifies water and ensures that it meets drinking water standards through videos, animations or experiments.
• Hands-on Experiment – Design and Construction of Water Purification Device: Under the guidance of the instructor, students will design and build a simple water purification device by hand. Using filter materials (such as sand, activated carbon and cloth) and natural purification principles, students will simulate NEWater’s purification process, purify “sewage” through experiments, and observe the water purification effect. This experiment will help students understand the physical and chemical principles behind water purification and experience firsthand how to solve water resource problems through technology.
